Solidarity
message to our
Caribbean brothers and sisters
On behalf of the churches and people of the Caribbean Conference
of Churches we express our concern to the people and churches
of Bahamas, Cayman Islands Cuba, Dominican Republic, Grenada,
Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico St Vincent and Tobago in the
face of your suffering as a result of the impact in your
countries of Hurricane Ivan and Tropical storm Jeanne.
While this hurricane season has underscored the extreme
vulnerability of so many of our countries to natural disasters,
it has also been an opportunity to strengthen and re-assert
our communal and regional links to each other.
We assure you of the prayerful and material support of our
pan-Caribbean ecumenical community in your time of loss,
re-grouping and re-building. Our prayers especially are with
those who have lost their homes and loved ones
To date we have been in touch with National Christian Councils
in Grenada , in Jamaica , in Cuba and in Haiti to offer Christian
solidarity and to support the needs identified by the councils
for assistance to the church and wider communities. We know
of your concern for each other and will keep you informed
of the work undertaken by the various councils and related
church groups. Also, many of the CCC's international partners
stand ready to support rehabilitation and other efforts through
a process of ongoing consultation and collaboration.
We pray for God's blessings on us all in the days ahead.
